HPB Targets U.S. Expansion With Solid-State Battery Technology and Licensing Model

HPB Head of Finance Farai Akomah-Hoppe explains the European company’s solid-state battery technology and its plans to expand into the United States. Rather than manufacturing batteries itself, HPB licenses its patented technology to industrial partners. Its solid-state design eliminates the flammable liquid found in conventional lithium batteries and is intended for large-scale applications including home energy storage, data centers, and grid stabilization. HPB also says its technology offers long service life, fast charging, deep discharge capability, and operation across a wide temperature range.

HPB is now seeking a U.S. industrial partner to build and own an American manufacturing plant using its technology. The company describes its licensing approach as a “business in a box,” providing partners with production processes, manufacturing-line plans, materials sourcing concepts, a business case, and access to its European equipment network. Akomah-Hoppe says growing U.S. demand from the grid, data centers, defense, and other industries makes this an opportune time to pursue American manufacturing.
