BioVie Reports Positive Phase 2 Parkinson’s Trial Results for Bezisterim in Key Patient Subgroup
BioVie has presented results from its Phase 2 SUNRISE-PD clinical trial evaluating the experimental drug bezisterim in patients with early Parkinson’s disease at the 151st Annual Meeting of the American Neurological Association in San Diego. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study enrolled 57 patients over 12 weeks, assessing motor and non-motor symptoms, daily activities, sleep, inflammatory biomarkers, and overall clinical benefit.
The findings showed that patients with higher levels of systemic inflammation at the start of the trial experienced the strongest response to bezisterim. This prespecified subgroup, representing approximately half of the study population, demonstrated statistically significant improvements on the Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale. The results suggest that inflammation levels may help identify patients more likely to benefit from the investigational treatment, although further clinical research is needed.
