Hexion and Citrotec Join Forces to Scale Next-Generation Fire Protection

Hexion and Citrotec discuss their new 50/50 joint venture, formed in April 2026 to bring Citrotec’s environmentally safer fire-prevention technology into wood, lumber, engineered wood, and other building materials. The partnership combines Citrotec’s fire-protection science with Hexion’s manufacturing capabilities, materials expertise, and established presence in the building-products industry, creating a path to move the technology from development toward broader commercial deployment.

The companies say Hexion’s manufacturing footprint will allow the partnership to scale more quickly, conduct full-scale testing, accelerate product development, and explore additional applications. Citrotec CEO Wes Bolson and Hexion’s Steve Willoughby also discuss the potential to expand beyond current applications into a broader portfolio of fire-resilient products designed to help protect people and property before fires start.
