BioVie Reports Positive Phase 2 Results for Parkinson’s Disease Drug Candidate

BioVie (NASDAQ: BIVI) has announced positive results from its Phase 2 SUNRISE-PD clinical trial evaluating bezisterim in patients with early-stage Parkinson’s disease. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was designed to establish proof of mechanism and proof of concept in patients who had not previously been treated with carbidopa or levodopa, with its primary assessment focused on changes in blood-based inflammatory biomarkers.

The trial successfully met its prespecified endpoints, with top-line data showing improvements in blood-based inflammatory markers, biological indicators of cellular health and nerve cell damage, as well as clinical measures of daily living, motor function, and non-motor symptoms compared with placebo. The findings are expected to help guide the design of a potential Phase 3 clinical trial.
