BioVie CEO: Long COVID Trial Shows Significant Improvements in Fatigue, Malaise and Brain Fog

BioVie President and CEO Cuong Do discusses results from the company’s Long COVID clinical trial evaluating bezisterim, its investigational drug candidate targeting inflammation associated with neurological symptoms. BioVie found that Long COVID patients varied significantly in their symptom burden, but patients who entered the trial with more severe symptoms experienced clinically relevant and statistically significant improvements. According to Do, bezisterim showed an apparent treatment effect on 21 of the 22 endpoints assessed, with improvements among high-symptom-burden patients in fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and cognitive impairment or “brain fog.”

Do says BioVie believes bezisterim may be the first drug candidate to demonstrate benefits across all three traditional Long COVID symptoms in a well-controlled clinical trial. The company is awaiting biomarker data and plans an end-of-Phase 2 meeting with the FDA to discuss Phase 3 trial design, while also seeking grant funding for its next Long COVID study. BioVie is separately working toward Phase 3 development of bezisterim for Parkinson’s disease and expects formal FDA feedback on that program before the end of 2026.
