Acurx CEO: New C. Diff Data Shows Faster Kill Rate Than Standard Antibiotics

Acurx Pharmaceuticals CEO David Luci discusses new scientific data presented at a leading international C. difficile conference in Bled, Slovenia. According to Luci, University of Houston researchers found that investigational antibiotic ibezapolstat demonstrated superior time-kill kinetics against C. difficile compared with standard-of-care antibiotics vancomycin and fidaxomicin. He says the findings may help explain the higher cure rate and lack of reinfection observed so far in Acurx’s clinical trials.

Luci also explains how the new data could support Acurx’s regulatory strategy following discussions with the FDA. He says that if efficacy and supporting data remain sufficiently robust, Acurx could potentially seek approval after one Phase 3 trial rather than two, with a possible indication covering both frontline and recurrent C. diff. The company has also opened enrollment at the first six of 20 planned sites for its Pathfinder study in recurrent C. diff, with results expected in the second half of 2027.
