Acurx Pharma Partners With Leiden University to Advance Next-Generation Antibiotics

Acurx Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ACXP) has announced a new scientific partnership with Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands to advance the development of its novel PolC inhibitor antibiotic program. Building on research supported by a 2025 Health~Holland grant, the collaboration aims to generate the first-ever three-dimensional structure of PolC from MRSA in complex with DNA and an Acurx inhibitor, providing critical insights for the design of next-generation antibiotics targeting drug-resistant bacterial infections.

The expanded partnership will deepen research into PolC inhibition, helping accelerate the development of systemically active antibiotics against a broad range of Gram-positive pathogens that are resistant to currently available treatments. The initiative represents another important step in Acurx’s strategy to address the growing global challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
