Acurx Enrolls First Patient in Pathfinder Trial for Recurrent C. Diff Infection
Acurx Pharmaceuticals has enrolled the first patient in its Pathfinder trial, a 20-patient open-label study evaluating lead antibiotic candidate ibezapolstat in patients who have experienced at least three episodes of C. difficile infection within the previous 12 months. Acurx is developing what could become the first new class of antibiotics in nearly 40 years.
The company also recently met with the FDA, which agreed to consider a future NDA submission based on robust efficacy results from the planned Pathfinder and ASPIRE trials. If successful, Acurx says ibezapolstat could potentially treat the spectrum of C. difficile infection from an initial episode through multiple recurrences. According to the company, all patients cured in its clinical trials to date have remained recurrence-free.
